Art and Real Estate: The New Investment Pair

Published on 8 january 2025

Modern man yearns for quality, uniqueness - for luxury. That is why various brands have been created, but only a handful can be described as high, luxury brands that offer not only quality and uniqueness, but also an investment. Such a commodity is real estate, which over the years has increasingly merged with art, because it is precisely the latter that breathes soul into the space and adds a personal touch in the absence of a brand.

The synergy between art collecting and real estate is nothing new, especially in Miami, where some of the largest art collectors, including Jorge Pérez and Craig Robins, are also some of the largest real estate developers. But this year, for the first time, the connection between the two has become direct. At the Art Basel art fair in Miami Beach, which took place from 6 to 9 December 2024, the brokerage house Sotheby's, together with its partner company, which deals with luxury real estate, organized an event in the VIP box to promote its properties, as it saw potential buyers in its clients, collectors of investment art. Everything has developed over the past years, as Sotheby's and other similar houses have started to establish internal art consultancies, and architects and engineers have increasingly taken into account the space for works of art when planning new buildings. What's more: the inclusion of carefully selected pieces of art, which have not only aesthetic but also investment value, in the space achieves an increase in the value of these properties.

Owners of other services, such as the hotel industry, are also aware of the increasingly close connection between art and real estate. For example, we find works by Ross Bleckner hanging in the lobby and rooms of the New York hotel The Ritz-Carlton. Find out more here.

We also deal with this concept in Stoja, where we are also aware that the potential of international art is the best - this is already indicated by the result of the first public art auction, which took place last December. You can read more about the event and the outcome here. Stoja Art Collection Gallery is the only gallery in Slovenia where our clients have the opportunity to invest in blue-chip art. Among the selected foreign artists hanging in our gallery are Ross Bleckner, André Butzer, David Reed, Andy Warhol, Bernd Zimmer and others. By clicking on an individual name, you can read more about the artist and the works that are already waiting for you. You can also see the viewed works live in the gallery, by prior arrangement.
