Visiting La Biennale di Venezia 2024

Published on 18 november 2024

During the weekend of 9th and 10th November 2024, Stoja team visited another important art event: the 60th Venice Biennale, titeled Foreigners Everywhere. This year, the exhibition runs from April 20th to November 24th and is spread across the city, with most of it on display in two central venues, the Giardini and the Arsenale. This year's Slovenian pavilion was prepared by artist Nika Špan and curator Vladimir Vidmar.

La Biennale di Venezia was founded in 1895 and is today one of the most famous and prestigious cultural events in the world. The Biennale, whose central task is to present the latest artistic trends and research, is divided into several sections: art (1895), architecture (1980), film (1932), dance (1999), music (1930) and theater (1934). Since 1998, the art and architecture biennales are no longer just a collective organization of national pavilions, but are a collection of three parts: exhibitions of national pavilions, each with its own project and curator; an international exhibition that has a new curator every year and individual thematic events approved by the chief curator. The Art Biennale is recognized as the world's leading event for contemporary art exhibitions. From 1999, when 59 countries participated, the number of participants grew to 86 countries from around the world by 2017.

Despite the fact that the exhibition spaces were not represented by any major artistic names, the event is an important experience for discovering new artistic trends and names. Among all of them, we highlight the American pavilion, which stands in the middle of Giardini, which charmed us all. The mixture of vivid colors that intertwine and complement both the room and the paintings and sculptures would impress anyone. In particular, we highlight the paintings of the artist of the American pavilion, Jeffrey Gibson, which appear to us to be a combination of Boetti's and Reed's works. Boetti's lettering and chosen colors form the message of each painting, and the patterns in the background are reminiscent of David Reed. So that you can find associations between the works yourself, we invite you to visit the Stoja Art Collection Gallery, where you can see works by David Reed and Alighieri Boetti for yourself. Viewing is possible after prior arrangement.

We once again share with you some photo highlights of the exhibition.
