Director-General Benedejčič meets head of Russian federal agency

Ljubljana, 12 August 2010 - The Director-General for Global Issues and Multilateral Political Relations, Ambassador Andrej Benedejčič, today met the head of the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Cultural Cooperation of the Russian Federation, Ambassador Farit Mukhametshin, representing the President of the Russian Federation.

The officials discussed, among other things, the planned opening of a Russian scientific and cultural centre in Ljubljana. Russian cultural centres are viewed as traditional gathering places for anyone living outside their Russian homeland, for people who have stayed or lived in Russia at one time or another, or have an interest in Russian culture. In this connection, the ambassadors agreed that such a centre would contribute to the spread and knowledge of Russian culture, literature, language and science in Slovenia.

During the meeting, the officials also addressed other aspects of cooperation between Slovenia and Russia.
