Dutch PM to Greece: only way to keep the euro is deep reform

Published on 7 july 2015

Mark Rutte made the comments after a debate in parliament on the issue. His finance minister is the head of the Eurogroup of Eurozone finance ministers.

"Our position is that Greece has to take difficult measures," he told reporters.

"It has to save money in order to make the economy healthy in the long term, but they are running away from it by calling a referendum and endless negotiating. It can't go on like this."

Rutte said his government is not willing to give any more funding to Greece unless there is a commitment to reform.

He says Athens must quickly make a decision on what it plans to do.
