Local Elections: Weird Acrobatics of Slovenian Voters

Published on 6 october 2014

Janković appears to have secured his third consecutive full term as mayor of the Slovenian capital with 63.8% of the vote, the poll commissioned by broadcasters RTV Slovenija, POP TV and Planet TV shows.

Independent candidate Damijan Damijanovič, who was backed by the centre-right parties, mustered under 20%, while the other candidates barely registered on the vote counter.

In Slovenia's second-largest city, Maribor, Fištravec is headed for a showdown with two-term former Mayor Franc Kangler.

The incumbent secured 42.5% of the vote against 18.4% of Kangler, who was ousted in early 2013 by months of protests over corruption. Fištravec was one of the leading faces in the protest movement.

The Mediana exit poll included 2,652 voters in Ljubljana and 1,903 voters in Maribor.
