Milanič First Slovenian Football Coach in England

The transfer was confirmed by Milanič's former club, where he coached for two seasons after a six-year stint at the helm of the Slovenian perennial champions Maribor.

Milanič played for the Austrian club in 1993-2000, winning two Austrian Bundesliga titles in 1998 and 1999.

The English media announced Milanič's transfer to Leeds United, which plays in the second-highest division in English football, already last week.

According to The Daily Mail, the new coach, who will succeed David Hockaday, travelled to England on Sunday to sort out the contract details, and is to be officially presented today.

Milanič, who was under contract with Sturm Graz until 2016, had no particular success with the Austrian side last season, having been eliminated by Iceland's Breidablik in the UEFA Europa League and taking 5th place in the national championships.

He will try to bring the three-time English champions (1969, 1974 and 1992) back to the top-tier Premier League.

Leeds United have been playing in the Championship since 2010 after climbing out of League One, where they found themselves following a financial collapse in the early 2000s.
