Slovenia Ranks 26th in Global Talent Competitiveness Index

Published on 2 february 2015

The three top ranking nations are Switzerland, Singapore and Luxembourg.

In the study, compiled by Adecco Group, the Switzerland-based human resource consulting multinational, in cooperation with graduate business school INSEAD, Slovenia is listed among 41 economies with relatively high revenue.

"If we compare ourselves with out neighbouring countries, we can be happy with our ranking. We are preceded only by Austria (15th place), while Hungary (33th), Italy (36th) and Croatia (46th) all ranked worse," the Slovenian branch of Adecco has said.

Key findings of the survey are that openness of the economy is key to talent competitiveness and that countries must consider talent employability or risk high unemployment. Meanwhile, the education systems need to reconsider traditional learning, as technology is changing the meaning of 'employable skills'.

Countries should invest more in life-long learning and encourage openness of trade, investment and migrations and enable flexibility and mobility of the employed.

"One of the most interesting parameters of this year's survey concerns vocational education. It is no longer the most important to be highly educated - when vocational education is integrated into secondary education, the employability indicators are usually much better," Miro Smrekar, the head of Addeco in Slovenia, has said.

The survey has also revealed a gap between the demand for certain professions and the type of education of job seekers.

To create new jobs and improve economic indicators in Europe a structural shift will have to be made, according to Smrekar. "Governments and companies should work hand in hand to enable young people to get experience, appropriate education and apprenticeship," he said.
