Smart watches strike a strong note at the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona
Published on 4 march 2015We have seen the future and it will be worn on your wrist. That's a view from the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona where Chinese telecom giant Huawei launched its first smart watch which works with Android phones.
It joins a crowded market just weeks before the highly anticipated unveiling of the Apple Watch.
Analysts predict sales of wearables will jump 158 percent this year while by 2018 350 million will be worn worldwide.
"Smart phones have completely changed people's lives in recent years and wearable devices, I think, are sure to change their life further in the next decade, when people are accustomed to the use of wearable devices," opined Yu Chengdong, CEO, Huawei Consumer Business Group.
Many smart watches are installed with modern kernels which make them capable of not only answering phone calls, receiving texts and emails, but also monitoring the wearer's heart beat.
Some, no longer accessories to smart phones, can serve as remote control systems too.
