Syria: prisoners released as violence continues

Opposition fighters known as the Free Syrian Army claim to have ambushed a security forces convoy in the province of Deraa.

On Wednesday, President Bashar al-Assad's regime released 755 prisoners detained during the nine month uprising.

The move is a requirement of the Arab League peace plan.

Meanwhile in Homs, Arab observers continued their tour of flashpoint cities around the country.

Amateur video posted online showed the head of the 60-strong team talking to residents. A local man showed him a photograph of his brother. He accused the Syrian regime of killing him although, he said, the death of the 64-year-old man was blamed on armed gangs.

Later, ahead of an expected visit by the observers to Hama, six people were reported killed when it was claimed troops opened fire on unarmed protesters.
